What is the

point of the root rippers in a cultivated field? Just trying to reduce compaction and get below the hardpan?

Compaction is part of it but the main reason is to address subsoil issues. If your soil is only 6 inches or a foot deep then the soil can only hold so much water but if that is extended to two to three feet then a lot of things get better.

What do you use as a blue marker?

I have used Alligare Marking Dye. Most chemical suppliers carry it.

I tried a blue one but it didn't really help me. It was very hard to see on grass and plants. Red was worse.

That stuff was like never-seize. It gets every where and stains every thing.

It also lets you know that you got chemical where you shouldn't have. Like on you and your truck.
