Hey does anyone in here ever overseed there pastures to make them thicker or just let nature take its course I have a pasture that isnt as thick as id like for it to be and was thinking about taking my spreader and spreading seen then taking my disc and lightly scratching the ground maybe 1 inch dep to try to get place for seeds to wash into when it rains to try to make it thicker is that a good or bad idea ?

the reason that you overseed your pasture is to add grazing days.the more days you can graze means the less hay the cows will eat.

I have been over seeding about once every 3 or 4 years and my pastures are pretty thick. I try to set the disc so it goes down about 1". I go real slow to not tear up the existing grass too much, then overseed, normally in the late winter right before it's supposed to rain.
