Looking into some winter shop projects. Overhaul kits and head kits for older tractors are not available from my supplier. He said many of the distributors have consolidated, and not longer restock most parts from pre 1990 tractors.

I also asked about "good" used engines but they are rare. Last time I did this I split two tractors and married the better halves.

I looked on Ebay and found premium priced kits for some tractors but not others. Definitely a mixed bag. Especially for gassers. Any tips on where to go for kits on 1970s vintage tractors?

I prefer old tractors to new. I also prefer Ford, for availability of parts. May just be my perspective, but Ford parts are out there. Yesterdays Tractor and Steiner have always had what I needed. Ordered some pretty obscure parts for a 961 Ford about a week ago, and wasn't a problem.

I have no trouble getting just about anything I need for my 1965-1991 Ford tractors from any number of online vendors or my "local" dealer.

We use Yesterdays Tractor and Vintage Parts is another one. I actually work for a JD dealer and have a few vendors I pay that specialize in parts for the older tractors (not just John Deere). At home, we've got a Ford and a Massey Ferguson... and an old Farmall Cub. Have never had an issue getting parts for any of them between Yesterdays or Vintage Parts. There's also a place I've ordered from through ebay that is hit or miss - All States Ag Parts as mentioned above!
