Without fail, people are adversely affected when the government interferes with free market.

"The American people are clamoring for relief at the pump," said Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., but if taxes are increased on the oil companies "they will get exactly what they don't want. The bill will raise taxes, increase imports."

Separately, Democrats also failed to get Republican support for a proposal to extend tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy development, and for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation. The tax breaks have either expired or are scheduled to end this year.

Dont we think that maybe we should be looking into alternative energy sources? I know you fellas are awful conservative, but isn't it a good thing to give tax breaks to promote energy conservation and efficiency?

At the risk of incurring all your collective wrath, I don't think it Socialism, but rather, good practice. We can't go on like this forever.

We should actively promote alternate fuel sources and conserve energy when possible. We should change government regulations that interfere with nuclear, wind and water power generations. We have restrictions that prohibit off shore drilling because of environmental issues but the Chinese are allowed to drill off the Florida keys.

China drills off Florida coast

Tax breaks during research and market penetration is substantially different that government subsidies.

Larry Craig is still around? Isn't he the bathroom guy?

Sorry, I got sidetracked. :?

Yes, it bites that we can't bid on Cuban contracts.

It seems to me that now the Cold War is over and Fidel is no longer in the picture, we could end that embargo. People are going there on vacation again, for goodness' sake.

Why in the heck would we want to bid on cuban contracts when we have our own coast to drill on.

It's all out there together! Don't ask me, Walt. I'm just saying...

Democrats and Rebublicans need to learn to work together for the good of the country. Everyone gets so worked up about whose going to be president but he is not the one making the day to day decisions that affect us. I wouldn't care if Mickey Mouse was president as long as we had some statesmen to represent us. We got to start using common sense. We need to look at alternative sources of energy and do whatever it takes to get something on line. I think we should also take a long hard look at the regulations that are now impeding progress and examine their real costs to the country. These figures should be calculated by someone outside the agency the implements the regulations.

Lammie, since you are starting to list names, take a sheet of paper and make a list the sleazy (brain cramp can't come up with a more politicaly correct term) Republican's still holding office. Then get a leagle pad and list the sleazy (have to use the same term to be unbiased) Democrat's still holding office and get back to us.

Don't intend to get into a poo slinging contest with you Lammie, Lord knows the politicians are going to do a better job that than either of us can and get paid to do it too.

Good post Jogee.

Lammie, absolutely nothing wrong with promoting alternative energy sources. Just don't expect nor demand that oil companies do it...after all they are "oil companies".

Okay, so I went and read what I was going to post and decided it was a lot more rough than you probably deserved and deleted it.

Calm down!!! I just didn't know what happened to the guy. Don't be so friggin sensitive. Please refer to my post on the "Locked Thread" thread about how you guys gets your widdle feewings hurt when it is one of your guys. If it had been a crack abouto anyone named Clinton, you would have been out there throwing eggs with whoever posted it.

Honestly...

And yes, Jogee, it was a good post. I have tried to think in terms of working together, although it seems like it will never be allowed to happen. While we all go broke paying for fuel, Dems and Reps. will be bickering over who is in control of what. Who cares a rat's a$$? We have to do something.

Democrats and Republicans do work together every day. They don't however, work for the good of the country. I don't think that there is a true "statesman" left in government.

They all work together for money and power, not for the good of the people.

IMO I think Texas should succeed...lol!

About everything we NEED is either grown, made, or manufactured here.

"The Lone Star State (Country)...aka "The Republic of Texas"...!! LOL!

We got oil, gas, grain, refineries, cotton & gins, cattle, pigs, timber, coal, methane, goats, sheep, wind, sand, water, research facilities, educational facilities, various manufacturing facilities, hospitals, law enforcement, laboratories, chickens, railroads, semi-trucks, roads, creeks, rivers, lakes, tornados, straight-line winds, hail, rain (in some areas), sand & blowing sand, fireants, birds, bugs, snakes, airplanes & airports, cacti, mesquite (for BBQ our cattle), meat processors, etc. Well...guess we'd have to "import" tobacco...doesn't grow too well in Texas... We also make our own booze here. Probably a few other things that we need or don't need...

Food for thought, I guess.

Almost forgot...we probably have a few corrupt elected public officials too...lol.

Hey! We even have T. Boone Pickens! He might sell y'all some of our (needed) water...at a price...LOL!

Good post.

Common sense seems to be at a premium right now. There ain't much going around. Best not wait on it to take over.

Wewild, did you read in the GCA magazine about the Stuckey girl (rep from Atlanta) that wanted to outlaw bermuda in Georgia cause the US Park Service deems it as a nonnative invasive weed. I would have thought it funny if it wasn't so frightening to think this person has been elected into a position of leadership. I suspect the cattlemen's lobby wouldn't have enough pull to stop this from happening but I think the golf lobby does.
