Palpate/ heifer Questions??

We AI a heifer 51 days ago and we took her to the vet to get Palpated today the vet could find the uterus but not the horns. then he thinks the tubes are going down, but he is not sure if she is breed. We only have the one cow and we gave her a shot and then bred her 72 hrs later. she has not showed any signs of coming into heat since she was bred. While he was checking her she started draining but once she got home she has not anymore. He wants us to come back 2-3 weeks. Has anyone else had this problem?

At 51 days any experienced vet shoudl be able to detect pregnancy. That said, some cows are harder to do then others and some will fool even the best.

So should I just wait the 2 or 3 weeks and go back? I am planning on taking her to a neighbors and turning her out with his cows and see if any try to ride her in the next 20 days. I am not sure what else should be done. Open for suggestions

Perhaps a second opinion from a different vet?

What was she given a shot of? Something to bring her into heat? Most shots that are given to bring a cow/heifer into heat will also abort a current pregnancy (prostaglandin).

i agree... messing around in there too much at this stage of pregnancy can cause the cow to abort the fetus... you need an experienced vet here... at 51 days the horns should be swollen enough to detect pregnancy and should be right there... not heavy enough to fall out of the pelvic area yet..
