The Palgrove Charolais sale was held today. Wonder how it went? I drove past but didn't have time to call in. My wife and I were on the way to pickup feed. There were lots of motor vehicles at the property. Palgrove is the foremost Charolais herd in Australia. They sell upwards of 700 bulls a year and a fair few females too. They use Red Angus and Shorthorn as well as some Brahman. Their annual bull sale often has the top price of the year for Charolais in this country. Their cattle are like peas in a pod. They are great show promoters, though they don't show quite as much these days. Killala was to be at the sale so perhaps she'll let us know how it went.

Palgrove sold 162 bulls to average $6324

103 2-yr-old Charolais bulls sold to a top of $20,000, three times, and averaged $6971
29 yearling Charolais bulls sold to a top of $14,000 and averaged $6241
10 Charolais/Shorthorn bulls sold to a top of $5500 and averaged $3750
20 Charolais/Angus bulls sold to a top of $8000 and averaged $4400

Breeding of the top three bulls was-
Lot 3: Palgrove Colossus, an ET calf by Palgrove Zorba (Palgrove Viagra x Palgrove Festoon 108) out of Palgrove Bronwin 65 (Trinity Farm Rosendo x Palgrove Bronwin 40). This bull won its class and was reserve junior bull at the largest showing of Charolais in Australia at Beef 2009
Lot 4: Palgrove Cavalier, by Bova Sylvain (Oriental x Jacobine) out of Palgrove Panache 99 R/F (Impair x Palgrove Panache 72)
Lot 58: Palgrove Coach (P), and ET calf by LT Silver Bar 4216 (P) (LT Silver Value (P) x LT Wyoming Breeze (P)) out of Palgrove Friesia 19 (P) (Palgrove Vertico x Palgrove Friesia 10 (P)

The top yearling was lot 115: Palgrove Dipper, by Palgrove Yakka (Palgrove Underwood x Silver Jelena 4) out of Palgrove Refine (Palgrove Viagra (P) x Palgrove Refine 51)

I have some pics which I will post if I get time. The line up of bulls really was outstanding, talk about breeding for a type. Beautiful soft, muscular cattle, and fantastic temperaments to boot. One of them was even helping out in the office when they were semen testing!! (seriously!)

I love driving past that place in August when all the sale bulls are on the oats in their front paddock. It's a beautiful sight.
