Our first F1 Wangus

This is 300 Wagyu pairs of the neighbor's. Couldn't fit them all into a single picture. They were spread out some. He does have a lot of Wagyu/Angus cross calves as he breeds all his commercial heifers to a Wagyu. Those calves left a few weeks ago headed to a feedlot somewhere.

My F1 Wagyu/Angus crosses tend to have finer bones than PB angus. However, I don't think bone thickness is much of a concern for those breeding Wagyu or wagyu crosses ;-)

I agree they are finer on the Blk.
We never had an issue with the Jap Blk Full Blood Wagyu legs. Beef cattle not show cattle so it never was a concern.
The Akaushi (Red Wagyu) have much bigger bones and carcasses.
why do you breed black instead of red ones if red have bigger carcasses? Im not in that business, but I am curious.

When you say 750 carcass, do you mean hanging weight? If so, why isn't that big enough? If you're breeding Wagyu you're shooting for prime grade carcasses, can you add the size back in without giving up the quality, or ending up with rib eyes so big they won't sell?

The black is known for its marbling and marbling fineness. A lot of the black cows are poor milkers but again there's a few genetically that are better than others. Depending on where they came from in Japan they have some different genetic traits some have larger frame size, some have better marbling some have bigger eye muscle area.
But they are skinny butt cattle that normally will only weigh around 1200 lb at the most.
The Reds are known for they're great milking and maternal traits. They also are much larger and thicker cattle. The reds are also very friendly. All the wagyu cattle we've ever had have been very docile. Our red Akashi Bull normally weighs around 1400 lb unless he's been breeding.
And they are two distinct different breeds even though they're both called wagyu. So we do get some hybrid vigor when we do the crosses.
We are just now waiting on our first Calvs from this Red Bull. Sure does take a lot of time from the day you bought the semen until the day you get a calf out of that bull.... we're pretty excited to get one any day.

Is your Akaushi bull registered? If so, would you mind sharing the reg number?
