Took some pictures tonight of our bulls for Farm Fest this year. These bulls have not been babied, nor pampered. As you can tell by the pictures, we are having a tough time of it with flies. I poured them about two weeks ago, but we had a good rain a few days ago and the flies came out like gangbusters! I plan on getting more pour on tomorrow when I am in town so I can do them again, along with the rest of the herd!
Anyway, we will pull them in next weekend to clip them up for farm fest; nothing fancy, just heads and tails. The 4 oldest bulls have completed and passed their BSE on Friday. I forgot to write the weights down; the vet was in a hurry so I was pushing them through fast (he did the bulls, calf hooded 4 heifers, preg checked 3 others). So here they are, flies and all!

This first bull is Ron's bull we are developing and selling. He is a 1/2 blood, sired by Iron Hide and out of his Rocking P Bartlet cow. I do remember his weight because I took a picture of it for Ron, he was 1200 even. He is a September, so just 12 months old. Here is his pedigree:

This is a December (9 months old) 3/4 blood, sired by Pays To Dream. We showed him several times this summer, he won a bunch.

This is a late Sept HPF Optimizer x Shear Force female. He should be a great female maker and add pounds to his calves. He has a nice set of EPD's.

This is an October Upperclass x Simme Valley Zsa Zsa embryo bull (11 months). We showed his sister all summer with great results.

This is his flush sister:

This is a Sept HPF Optimizer x Upgrade female. He is a scale smasher, and I wish I would have written his weight down but I know he was over 1200. He is in the top 5% of the breed for weaning weight, 3% for yearling weight, and 4% for ADG.

I have several more bulls, but they would not cooperate at getting their pictures taken. I think the flies had something to do with it!

Nice set of bulls. Really like Ron's bull and your embryo calf. Wish your were closer I would have to take a look at them.

That first bull is really a stud! All will be good bulls for someone's herd though!

Weighed, washed and clipped the bulls for farm fest today. Took some better pictures, so here goes:

Those are better pictures. You have done a great job with Black Bart. He is all bull. He is very docile. One of the most docile calves I have ever had. Your bulls look better in these pictures!

Rons bull and Burnin Bling are my favorites. What a solid set of bulls

Nice set. I really like the PTD line, I have a few cows out of him that raise nice thick calves with no extra inputs, and are very fertile. I raised a bull out of him that was thick as a cinder block, but only got one season's calves out of him. An accidental soybean spill did him in. If anyone is looking for low maintenance, low birthweight, moderate Simmi's, look no further.

Disclaimer: This is NOT a critique.
FS, the bull in the second picture looks to have a higher tail set. Do you have any issues with that? Do your customers have any issues with that?
I am asking because I am starting to sell bulls and I have a decent calf, but he has a higher tail set and I'm wondering if I should cull for that?

Kris prefers a high tail set. As Alacowman stated, she has instructed me that it is a function of how it sets in the rest of the pelvis. As I understand, you don't want the set of the tail to negatively influence the birth canal.

I like a higher tail set, but not too high. I have never found a correlation of it relating to birth issues, but our numbers are small. Grandmaster tends to throw a high tail set, and we have some females in production and never had an issue. I think it is just preference.
I hope that answered your question.

Yes Ma'am it does. Thank you
