Well, we finally have our 1st set of twins born. They were born sometime on Thursday. There is 1 heifer and 1 bull. Momma accepted the bull but wants nothing to do with the heifer. The heifer nursed ravinishly when I put momma in the chute, she has plenty of milk for both calves but she can only count to 1  Momma bunted the heifer around and I'm afraid she would hurt her if I left them all together so I seperated the heifer into a small pen. I will try to feed the heifer off of the cow but we will probably end up bottling her due to the fact of the difficulty of putting momma in the squeese 2x a day. Oh well, at least their health and were born with no complications.

i don't know your setup sid, but another way to do it is to separate both calves and turn them in with the cow at the same time. usually the cow will stand for both of them this way.

Congratulations and condolences.
We've generally supplemented one calf and it turned into a "snaeky snacker" after a week or two and got plenty to eat without the supplement. Generally had poop on there heads because that's the only way they could nurse some cows.
Did I ever mention that I hate twins?

I could easily keep both calves seperated from mom, Bull calf had already nursed and I had already milked out the other teats by the time we found "Annie" the other night so that wouldn't have worked then but I will try that today. Momma is one of the very protective cows so it is difficult to get her calf away from her, but it can be done, just not something I want to do 2x a day  I think it might just be easier to bottle lil' orphan Annie. I'll try to snap a pic if I can get them to stand still.

Has everyone had an "Annie", and it seems a steer is usually "norman" or "bud". Congratulations on the two healthy ones!

I just weaned my last twin calf.. hopefully! I'm shipping the cow this week. This is her fourth set of twins, and I'm tired of bottle raising one!

Good luck with your calf!
