The Red Angus Association and Agrigenomics are now accepting samples for osteopetrosis (marble bone diseases) testing. For info visit the website www.redangus.org.
I would encourage everyone that has some Red Angus bloodlines to at least check the carrier list and the pedigrees of cattle you own to see if there are potential carriers in your herds. There have been several more carriers added. Testing commercial animals may not be feasible but most of the widely used sires have already been tested so we can use the carrier-free sons of the great ones and quit fearing some good genetics. The breed website has a lot of great information on the disease and who to test.
