Considering the current state of input costs I don't think anyone can be criticized for looking into ways to curb expenses.

Does what is described in the article work? My opinion is that the one research study is a pretty small sample size.

With that said -- I practice what is in the article because I don't have a TMR. I know that cattle grow using these practices and that harvested carcasses are very good. But I have very little data on efficiency or cost savings.

I have heard similar comments years ago, but not that in-depth. it is why you set out free choice salt and mineral. also explains why cows will feed on corn stalks with fresh alfalfa/grass hay in the feeders.

I think it's brilliant. I would have tried it if I ever had a feed lot.
