old cattle dog with joint problems...glucosamine/condrotin not working anymore

Help Support CattleToday:

As I understand, Gabapentin is used for seizures, convulsions, anxiety and pain by causing an effect on the nerve cells. Galliprant is used for dog osteoarthritis and targets pain and inflammation. I suspect the various drugs mentioned in this thread were all appropriate for those individual animals. But I think that the variety of drugs used may also indicate the need for a vet to examine the specific animal including its history in order to select the most effective treatment for that animal.
Yes and many of these drugs are nsaids and shouldn't be given at the same time nor with corticosteroids.

Our 10 year old farm dog started having hip pain and trembling in her back leg. We took her to the vet and she was started on Librela injections for her arthritis once a month. They have worked wonderfully. A little pricey 80 dollars a month, But she acts like her pain is so much better. She is running again following the tractor out to the fields and back.

High-dose fish oil can exert anti-inflammatory effects. I take four 1200 mg capsules daily just for that purpose. 1000-1200 mg 2X/day might give your dog some relief, and certainly has minimal potential side effects, compared to NSAIDs, Librela (FDA has just released a cautionary statement regarding adverse reaction reports) , etc.

If you can find a veterinarian certified in acupuncture, it can be a game-changer. Wife got her IVAS certification back in the 1990s, and we're firm believers in acupuncture and cold-laser therapy.
