I WAS IN OK RECENTLY AND SAW ALL THE BEAUTIFUL FIELDS OF WAIST HIGH (PRAIRIE GRASS?) GRASS. IT WAS WAIST HIGH TO THE CATTLE I SAW GRAZING. OTHER FIELDS WERE BEING CUT FOR HAY. I COLLECTED SOME SEEDS AND BROUGHT THEM BACK TO FLORIDA. I PLANTED SOME AND DISCOVERED THAT IT IS FROST RESISTANT. QUESTION IS IS IT GOOD GRAZING AND CAN I PURCHASE SEED IN LARGE QUANTITIES. AND WHAT IS THE GROWING SEASON. MY HOPE IS THAT IN FLORIDA IT WILL GROW YEAR ROUND

Take some of the plants with seed heads to your Natural Resources Conservation Service office. They should have a grassland specialist that will be able to identify the grass

I live in Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma is unique in the climate which is experienced here as it varies from one corner of the state to the other. Sometimes the climate is similar to that of the deep south and other times it is similar to that of the midwest. If it was native Prarie which you were looking at it was one of two types (tallgrass-Big Bluestem, Indiangrass, Switchgrass and Little Bluestem) or (Shortgrass- a mixture of grama- buffalo grass- and little bluestem). Oklahoma also has many introduced forages which include many grown in the south (Bermudagrass, Dallisgrass, Johnsongrass, Lovegrass, Old World Bluestemand many others). > help with seed procurement. THANKS ANDY. I FLEW INTO TULSA OK AND DROVE TO INDEPENDENCE KANSAS. WHEN I AQUIRED THE SEEDS I WAS ABOUT MAIMI OK. THE VARIETY I WOULD LIKE TO GET IS THE WAIST HIGH FROST PROOF KIND. THE FEW SEEDS I GERMINATED ARE GREEN AND PRETTY AND HAVE FLOURISHED THROUGH TEMPS IN THE LOW TO MID TWENTIES.
