A local police officer was responding to a welfare check yesterday morning at 4am and was shot 2 times when he arrived on scene. He had on his vest but one shot was in the lower stomach and the other in the arm. The shooter left him laying in a ditch to die. After several hours of operations he died last night. He wad 29 and had been married 3 weeks and had a young daughter. His wife is a police officer also. He also worked with a crew doing Firewise cleanup work for me.
Another officer was recently stabbed while chasing a suspect that had crashed and third was shot while trying to stop a shoplifter. Both survived. This isn't big cities but small towns. All was related to drugs. They found the shooter last night in another state. All I can say is that the shooter should have resisted when they found him.
There must be a stop to all this.

Thats really sad KT. Drugs are everywhere and the crime follows. Luckily we‘re cracking down on drug and human trafficking at the Mexican border so things should get better soon.
It doesn't seem like anything is being done here. I hope you are correct but somehow I don't think so.

So sorry to hear that. People who kill officers need to stop being able to make it to trial. Maybe then the message would get out that there is a line you just don't cross.

I don't mean for this to be political but things like this has to stop.
In the last 2 years on this same street one woman came into a police officers house late at night while they were home. Drugged out of her mind.
Another woman had a baby and put it in a bag and left it at a house.
Just in the last month 3 drug overdoses with 2 dead.
Why would an officer even respond except they are good people doing their job.

Thats horrible. We watched a Netflix show about Virginia a bunch of people being on pills. We actually watch several of the documentary East Kentucky, Virginia, the one about the pharmacy when the pain pills first were getting started, the pill mills how people go to Florida to get them. It's crazy and sad. The whites of west Virginia is a good one. It's crazy to think all these addicts are drive on the roads. Than to look at the local arrests most are drugs and alcohol while driving. Pretty scary. Not to change the subject... people get addict to drugs only care about getting high. It's the devil runts family's and so many lives.

Sorry to hear about your friends. I couldn't even imagine being a police officer these days. Here a while back this young guy stole a truck from a dealer. The police officers pulled him over was going up to the truck...the truck begin to roll...in the mean time the guy shot himself. Really never know what they are getting themselves into from one thing to the next.

I believe I know 12 or 13 people that have committed suicide... is that normal. The world is becoming real sad.

It won't stop until the perpetrators
are punished. I don't mean a slap on the wrist either.
PUNISHED!

Officers of the law put their lives on the line just to have some soft headed judge
turn them loose to do it all over again.

Justice is not justice in this country.

We've been punishing drug addicts and petty criminals more harshly than most other first world countries for decades, and it hasn't even begun to make a dent. It sounds good, but we can't lock up or execute enough people to end crime.

Procession starts in Roanoke to honor Big Stone Gap Officer killed in the line of duty

"The escort will be led by Wise County Deputy Sheriff Natasha Smith Chandler, who is bringing her husband home.
Tasha wants anyone who can come out to show their love and support by paying tribute along the way.

I believe a sack lunch, a hand shake on a job well done and a check for a couple hundred thousand so they can turn their lives around is the solution. Probably should give them directions to the Randall Rehabilitation Center too so you can show them the light.

Thats sad. Officer Chandler was really young just getting life started. Heartbreaking for his wife, daughter, and family. 💔 He looks like he was a nice honest guy. It's strange how good people die young and dope heads should have died long ago keep on living. 😔

Virginia in 2021 repealed the Capital murder which allowed for the death penalty. So the very worst he can get is life sentence. Will cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands when a bullet behind the ear is cheap even with current ammo prices.
This is the same legislative session that made it legal to grow Marijuana and possess up to 1 ounce. Over an ounce is a $25 fine.
