If you keep working as you do now, it will pay you for the rest of your life! Hang in there. We need more young role models like you!

Greenwillow..........For those who care to share, how many have other jobs, and what are they?

Currently a manager of a community center. It works well as it leaves lots of time for the ranch.

Previous to that I worked as a logger, trucker and underground miner in the winters..

I'm coming up on 21 years at the Boeing airplane company working in security, and for six years prior to that, US Army as a prison guard. I am certified as a forklift driver for backup employment.

My husband & I have our own cabinet shop. I work in the shop , do the business books and paper work, do the majority of the ranching, and have 2 teenagers. I have come to realize that raising a 17 year old son takes more work than all of those combined!

I'm a Realtor specializing in central Texas farm and ranch property. I'm pretty lucky.. I get to work with ranchers! Well, sometimes anyway. The buyers these days are generally "city folks" wanting to move to the country.

Husband has a dozer business and we share ranching duties.

ummm....veterinarian 18+ years. Doing more small animal now than I used to since BSE hit.....

i am an accountant and i work for a construction company.

oh, but you will or at least can.. BECAUSE.. you went to school.. at this point you can be anything you want to be.. name it.. then go to school for it and make it happen.

when you stop going to school your options then are limited.

Wow, it is so interesting to hear what people do out side of the cattle business! So many wood workers! That is great! My father and grandfather are (were) carpenters. That is all they have (did) ever do. My dad owns his own business, builds custom houses from the ground up, custom cabinetry and house remodels, custom furniture. I don't think there is anything he can't make. I may be biased though - I love my daddy!

As for me, I am a network administrator for a small company, but I try to get outside in the country as much as I can.

Currently I am the controller for a small food processing plant, cattle rancher, raising hogs, farm row crops, commercial fish in the spring and thinking about joining a group study for the sleep deprived. :D

I work for one the local banks running the computers in the afternoon and early evening. I spent the rest of the time farming. I dapple in wood working and machinery repair as needed. I guess I qualify as a jack of many trades and master of none.

I am a Deputy State Livestock Inspector which usually keeps me busier than I want to be in October and November--- also work a few weeks each year as acting Justice of Peace and City Judge.

Retired from high tech, part time working with cattle, and part time
working with local school district spending time with the students.

I teach ag at the local high school. Still get to work with livestock, just have to put up with kids to do it. Still maintain a small registered Shorthorn herd on the side. It just changes the priorities. I take care of mine after I help everyone else.

I for the last 10 years I have worked for a Conservation District where I mostly work on nutrient management plans (manure management) and I help people with pasture management. I am a certified crop adviser. Before I started at the CD I fell timber for about 20 years.

My husband has an automotive machine shop ( builds engines and does machine work) I have a small retail store right next to him. Our cattle is our babies tho....we look forward to seeing them everyday!

LA4Angus why didn't you tell everyone your jobs?

Full time Q&A reply specialist.

Part time Republican Party Strategist. What's that catchy new slogan you came up with? O yeah, Win Bush Win!! Your good man, really good.

greenwillowherefords,
This was a pretty good post, Hats off to you
Thanks. I've been so busy the last few days I'm looking at the boards for a few minutes at 5:45 A.M.!
I've enjoyed reading these! I've been tempted to talk wooodworking more in-depth with some of you guys, but this is CattleToday not Woodworking Today, so I have refrained from it.
I want you to know that you all are the backbone of America. Those with rural roots and ties keep this country sane, in my opinion.

There is one more occupation that I have that is right up there with husband and father in importance to me: I am I guess what most would call a lay minister, and have served as assistant pastor of our small church in the past. I preach frequently on weekends for other churches, and pastor occasionally puts me to work at the home church as well. I am the son of an evangelist/woodworker/rock layer/etc. Dad spent most of his life preaching for small churches that few would take the time for, and when he ran low on funds, we'd go back home and he'd work a few months until he was able to go again. He died two weeks before his 62nd birthday and retirement. He pastored several churches in his younger years.

Having said all this, I sincerely hope that I have not been un-Christlike in any of our discussions, and if so, I'm sorry. Please don't think I'm trying to be holier-than-thou, boasting, or whatever. This is why I've quit spending much time on the boards on Sunday. Sorry this is such a long post!
