Help Support CattleToday:

54 years old for a little longer. Married 28 years for a little longer. Got a few cows. I do contract work for a Arkansas Game and Fish. I farm with other peoples money. I get paid no matter if the crop makes or not.

33, on wife number 2. She has enough attornies and judges in her family I'll stick this one out. 7 year old son and a 5 year old girl. I am the Principal for an insurance agency that is owned by a bank. Within the last year I have transitioned to lending as well and am a loan officer most of the day. Run a cow-calf operation with a buddy. I hunt, fish, golf, and run along with spending time farming. Wife and I are in the middle of building a house. Sold our current home this week and have two weeks to pack and move to a rental for a couple of months.

I'm 46 married 5 years. No kids of my own but wife has 5 that have all moved out.
Grew up on a 33 acre hobby farm that my folks started because they thought the world was coming to an end. Played guitar in a heavy metal band for 10yrs and went back to electronics school. I'm now the test eng for an automotive electronics mfg company.

Hobbies? I like to play Rome Total War on the computer every now and then and I drink a boatload of beer. :drink:

I almost never join these discussions, but shucks.... why not.

Off the computer; young enough to still refuse to admit to a number. Just me and two dogs and plan to keep it that way. I dabble in a bit of everything - skiing, dancing, photography, dog shows, writing, hunting, play piano, train horses - really good at some things, okay at others. Love to read, typically 3-4 books a week. My New Year's resolution is to watch one movie a week - in Spanish - to improve my vocabulary, which could be interesting since I rarely watch movies and can't remember the last time I watched TV. Maybe last spring? lol. Currently working on the job situation as graduation approaches. I have a slightly nomadic streak (visiting Texas next week); which vet school encourages by requiring externships. Life is never dull on my side of the computer screen. :p

Female 68 years old, married 43 years last Dec., one daughter 32, a clinical pharmacy specialist in infectious diseases. I am a retired teacher. Taught for 39 years and went back and taught at risk students for a half day three Years. Retired again to look after my husband who was getting over cancer surgery and chemo treatments. Then my mother-in-law for three months until she passed away. My mother has required a lot of care for eight years and has been in a nursing home since last Oct.
Two years ago my husband and I started taking care of my mother's cows. We have built the herd up by saving heifers and buying some more heifers and cow and calf pairs. We bought before the prices went so high. We enjoy working with the cows, but it keeps us very busy. You would never know that we are retired. I keep the records on all the cattle. My cousin helps us look after them
.
My husband has been cancer free for five years now and we are truly thankful to The Lord for this. He just cannot do as much as he used to do and neither can I.
I enjoy reading, playing piano, I play at my church, collecting cookbooks, cooking when I have time, and Sudoku puzzles.
We live in a small rural county in Middle GA. I have lived here all of my life except my college years. We would not be happy anywhere else. Our farm will soon have been in our family for 100 years and has been kept in operation all these years. I am trying to keep it going, but that is not easy. I will do my best as long as I am able.
I hope this lets you know a little more about me. Did not mean to put so much.
My daughter is married, but no grandchildren yet. Her husband is a pharmacist, too. I have grandcalves that I love to feed and tame. Then it is hard to sell them.

Thanks for sharing Williamsv. I love the fact that your farm has been in your family for nearly 100 years! There is just something about passing down a family farm that is so special.

Thank you. I hope I can live long enough to see our farm named a Centennial Farm. My grandfather would be very proud. He worked very hard to be able to buy the farmland that he did. None was given to him. He left all three of his children a large farm. My mother is the only one that has kept hers in operation. Cotton, peanuts, corn, watermelons , and vegetables have been planted all these years. Plus cattle have been kept in the pastures . The other two planted all of theirs in pine trees.

That is amazing, and sure says a lot about your grandfather! He must have been some man to be able to leave a farm to each of his kids. And good for your family for honoring his efforts.

He was up before day six days a week, and in bed before sundown. Plowed his crops with mules. He had several families that lived on his farm and helped. That is when cotton was picked by hand and peanuts were stacked. He was a hard worker and my grandmother had chickens and sold eggs or bartered eggs for groceries. I loved going with my granddaddy to town to take the eggs.
My grandmother milked cows. My mother had to milk before she went to school every day. They sold milk, butter, buttermilk, and cream to ladies in town. They all thought my grandmothers was the best.
They both worked very hard and saved every penny they could and bought land. I was telling my cousin's son yesterday that Granddaddy died on Jan. 15, 1958. He bought his last and largest farm in 1956.
I was blessed with wonderful loving grandparents that instilled in me a love for the land and hard work, as well as great values.

Williamsv my wife teaches the worst of the at risk kids from the poorest neighborhoods in the US. She has gotten kids into every major football program in the SEC. My hat is off to you for your teaching service, ma'am.

Thank you. I enjoyed teaching or I would not have taught that long. I always prayed every day that I could make a difference in at least one child's life. Hats off to your wife. I know what it takes out of a person to teach those kind of students. She will be blessed.
I apologize for taking so much space on this forum. When a teacher gets started, it is hard to stop them.
