 For the snake in the hen nest  --open a hole in both ends of an egg, blow out contents, plug one end with wax, fill with salt, plug end..mark with nailpolish..When dry,put out for a nest egg. When the snake eats the egg,it is broken inside the snake, and the critter dies of salt overdose. You never have to touch the thing, cause it goes hunting water :)

peg...,

Shrude. Is it the salt or the amount of salt that gets him? Why mark with nail polish?

Nail polish won't wear off like pencil will..think it's the amount of salt-that much would kill you!
See,the egg is waiting there for the snake-if a snake is hunting rats,it won't be hurt-if a dog gets it,it'll be thirsty-if a kid breaks it,the salt may sting a cut,but won't hurt the child..
Put a salt egg in all the nests for insurance-they work real good on snakes--not much use on coons or fox..

I dunno...but if I'd found one, Backhoeboogie would have heard me scream all the way into Hood County. I hate being startled with something like that. Just the other day I was getting feed out of the big bulk tank and about 3 mice came thru the auger. I say "about" 3 'cause...well never mind that.

Anyway, after I calmed down and located the bucket that went flying, I went up the hill to put the feed out. Apparently 2 more had landed in the bottom of another bucket. I lost it.

That reminds me. Earlier this winter, the rope broke that holds my shallow well pump and it got all clogged up with sand, so I took it into the house and threw it in the bathtub to clean it off. I got it pretty clean, but the water wouldn't drain so I fished around in the drain and grabbed out what felt like a piece of material but was actually part of a decomposing mouse. I washed my hands quite a bit aftyer that and it was a couple of days before I got back to eating any sort of finger food. I hate rodents. Give me a snake any day over a rat or a mouse.
