Oats as only grain?

I have an 11 week old dairy steer that will only eat oats. Is it ok 2 feed only oats? THANKS

Oats is a "safe" feed as far as its hard for them to overeat and get sick. BUT, I wouldn't think it is a balanced ration for such a young calf. He needs more and better protein than an older animal, and also need vitamins & minerals. You really should check with you local feed mill. They are usually experts at balancing rations. If not, check with your local university cooperative extension office. Jeanne

Oats are for growth, this calf may get to be very tall and thin. I would try slowly adding other feed stuffs to the ration, try adding molasses to it and see if that helps.
