I am just in the process of seeding a couple of hayfields. I am able to lime and fertilize the large field but the smaller field (10 acres) needs lime, but my checkbook says > not so fast. What can I plant on a low buck budget. Just something I could get one cutting off of and then reseed next spring? Would I get much of a crop of oat hay without lime and fertilizer? As hay will be scarce again this year I need all I can possibly get. I live in cent.mn. Thanks Dan

We just got 5" of rain after 9 months of drought. So no field work right now.
You can plant oats at any time, but it does not dry well for hay.
If you can make silage there are better options than oats, if you can not make silage there are better options than oats. Oats is a grain or grazing crop to me.
A June millet planting is one thing to consider.
