they will pay you for preconditioning…don't have to worry about them being run in the same pen with a bunch of trailer weaned..
We had a set of 50 + preconditioned by a fellow at Stevenson ; not sure if our efforts paid off ? Steers sold to the fellow at Ft Payne and the heifer group sold to a private individual. The heifers are delivering their second calves . He is well pleased but says they are still a little spooky . Preconditioner would catch the whole group if one was sick and I think they were treated pretty rough . We aren't set up to do preconditioning. We hope to do that one day . Need another farm/ pasture to wean and feed .
 
Just wonder if Midwest prices are a little stronger because they don't have too far to ship to feedlots. Pretty good haul from Bama to feedlots.
That is one advantage we have. Lots of feedlots close. I hear that they are getting rain on the California pastures. That drives up our light calf prices. Light calves get hauled down there for the winter. Then hauled to the mountain states for the summer. Puts on real cheap gain before headed to the feedlots.
