Odds are it will work itself back through (if it got through on its own) What assurance do you have the calf will try to go through where
you lower the wire? From looking at the fence I would guess it to be a short run from the number of steels between the woods.
The calf will go home where you lower the wire because that's where he can. Lol

They seem to find their way back when they get hungry. Lucky P is right, but sometimes a slow chase will result in the calf showing you where he got out.
 
I had penned the heifers and were trying to haul the ones with calves out. Of course, this was a calf that was suppose to go.

The calf was 600yds or better from a gate. I ended up turning out 2 of the super chill heifers and called them up to the fence. The calf walked with them down to the gate and came through. Once it got with in ear shot of momma they all headed back to the pens.

I feel like I should buy a lotto ticket right now. 😂
