We have a cow that presents with scaly look on the inside of the hind legs and her nose is raw-looking. She eats and drinks but she has lost weight. She is slow coming up to the feed but doesn't seem to have a limp as in foot rot. We are baffled. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this for us?

I would check her temp. Then her breathing. If no signs are wrong there worm the he double hockey sticks out of her.

what kind /coloration of cow? age? probably slow to come up because her legs are chafed. sounds like a fever and/or dehydration, at least.

The cow is a hereford, approx 4 yrs. old. Doesn't seem to progress in difficulty of eating or drinking. We have her separated from the rest of the herd.

i should have known. has she had any diarrhea lately? still sounds like fever/dehydration related with possible sunburn too

Sorrry, the cow is a angus/gilvey mix, mostly angus. The tips of her ears have fallen off(as is possible if she had had a very high fever.) No apparent signs of diarehha. There is no evidence of crust/blisters/sores between her toes or other difficulties of the feet.

Are they more round patches? If yes, then it would suggest ringworm. If this is the case, then there is no need to worry. They'll get over the fungus and won't get it again.
Ringworm causes no harm to the animal(s).

Have you contacted a vet yet? She likely has/had a systemic illness which I would guess at a heck of a distance to be viral.
