watched a documentary about this man on PBS last night. He really started a green revolution. Quite interesting his accomplishments. He did warn about future starvation because of poor agricultural practices.

Bet the tree huggers hate him since he is a proponent of GMO crops. He probably supports the use of chemical fertilizers as well.

Society benefitted with lots of cheap food. Producers no so much. Would have been much better for farming financials if he had never existed.

He is credited with saving more people from starvation than anyone else.

And yet people still starve to this day. Its a feel good story for the general population, but every farmer knows that we have never been short of food, even before the 60's and 70's. Countries that can't produce enough are bailed out by the food aid programs around the world to this very day, rather than taking ownership of their population vs land base vs land productivity vs populace productivity.

And we only give food aid if it makes us look good on TV. Sure no interest to make sure the homeless in NYC, or any city, have 3 square meals a day, everyday.

In 'emerging and under-developed' countries, the problem isn't not enough free food. Plenty is shipped there. The problem is corruption by govt and other 'officials (read..warlords). They confiscate a lot of it (most?) and then sell it on a black market for a profit to those who already have food but want more.

That is like say america would have never been discovered if not for Columbus.
Some other expert would have filled in for Borlaug.

You're condemning a lot of fine folks there buddy. I know people whose main joy in life is looking out for and helping others in any way they possibly can ALL with no fan fair whatsoever. Pretty sure we have several right here on this message board. You should try it sometimes.

You're relying on the kindness of others to solve the domestic problem. Which is fine until those people volunteering can't afford to do such things.

I am saying government should ensure that their own people on the streets are cared for before they start spending money feeding people in other countries.

I can't recall ever seeing anybody starve to death in this country.
They may not get proper nutrition. But not actually starve.
If I am wrong please correct me.

Does any country keep track of how many of their homeless starve to death? Probably not. Not good publicity.
