Does anyone do pranks on Halloween in your area anymore? I can't seem to get over the fact that they are a thing of the past here. As far as I know, there is absolutely nothing anymore.

When I was growing up, there was window soaping, firecrackers everywhere, toilet paper, throwing eggs, cutting trees in the road, and all kinds of mischief. Law enforcement was on high alert. Guards were hired to stay at the schools, and all the lights were let on. These days, they don't even leave the lights on.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Some of it got out of hand, like setting hay on fire. I can't remember when it stopped, I am surprised that it's went to zero these days; there's not even a soaped window in town.

To much crime now. They would probably think you were up to no good and shoot you. Lots of folks right here on CT have said as much if you come messing around their place.

Requires too much effort.

I agree kids are to lazy these days and most would have to idea how to even begin to cut a tree down.

So, I assume there are no pranks where you all are from. Was there in the past? When did it stop?

When I was a teen, all store owners in town would leave somebody there overnight to guard the store. It wasn't just something troublemakers did either; all the teens participated to a degree. Nobody was just sitting at home doing nothing on Halloween.

Thank god it's over it sounds awful

I guess to a point it was, but it was the norm back then. It wasn't just my town. We were probably tame compared to some. It seemed to be everywhere in KY when I was younger. I even heard my grandparents talk about pranks when they were young. I assumed it was everywhere.

The only time of year we see pranks is grad time. I graduated 13 years ago and we released two pigs in the cafeteria, burned our grad year in the football field and the guys all coloured their hair grey to look like our principal. I heard this year the school i graduated from...grads all wear water wings and when you see someone not you can spray them with a water gun. Oh how the times has changed haha

Pranks are still here tping people who don't handout candies houses and egging cars

I had somebody or somebodies throw a sofa bed off an interstate overpass in front of me on Halloween night about 30 years ago. Was that a prank?

Used to be toilet paper and egging 20 years ago, but only in the bigger towns. You wouldn't dare try that in the small towns. Homeowner would beat your ass and then phone your parents who would stop just short of killing you. Now people just break into your car or house and steal money for meth, cocaine or pills. The last set of vandals that went through here locally 7 years ago burned down a derelict house and a church and tried to burn a house for sale, all in one night, 20 miles apart. Never were caught - likely hopped up on drugs, that was when meth was just getting going here.

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to go on here in recent decades. The way my mother talked, years ago there were some pretty bad and dangerous things done. She said some folks would not leave their homes around that time of year. She said that she remembers hearing at one point some people put a wire up across a road during the horse and buggy days.

Yes, I've heard of things like that from the grandparents generation too. I know it continued through the 1980s around here, but I guess I stopped paying attention and can't remember when it stopped and why. I'm curious if law enforcement got serious and pressured it to end, or the younger generation just gradually lost interest. I'm surprised if they lost interest.

As mean as some can be today, I'm surprised they pass on an opportunity to go crazy on Halloween, but like someone said, maybe it's too much work.

In my day, It seems like all the teens participated to a degree, but everyone did according to their personality. It was only the really mean ones that caused any real damage. Store owners expected to get their windows soaped, and unpopular teachers could expect a lawn full of toilet paper.

Very similar to how it was where and when i was a child. Kids would egg, TP, soap windows, etc. The really nasty ones would destroy property or leave a turd on someone's porch.
Smaller children without parental escort feared having their candy sacks snatched by bigger kids. I think the trunk or treat church thing has eliminated a lot of those problems and i think they came about as a consequence of our current world being perceived as not as safe as decades before by many parents. Then factor in, that a kid can cover as much ground as a large neighborhood, just by going car to car in a church parking lot. Times have changed.

On a side note, as far as pranks go, had a lot of fun in college and military dorms. When someone passed out drunk, they often had one eyebrow H2O2 treated, or a dab of mustard placed on each corner of their mouth. Along with the obligatory sharpie treatment. Also, fill a large manila envelope full of shave cream, slide the edge under the door and stomp the envelope, will pepper their room with shave cream. Never got too seriously out of hand

It wasn't halloween - but the best prank done to me was at a show.
Cattle were all washed and I was getting ready to dry them with our blow dryer. Luckily, when I turn a blow dryer on, I point the nozzle UP. Someone took my long hose and filled it with baby powder. Took me forever to shake out all the baby powder, but boy did the building smell GREAT!! Never found out who did it, and never heard of anyone else having it done to them.
