I received this e-mail today- that was an article in a local area newspaper- about a former area resident...
Trophy Elk

AN ELK PHOTO with former local, Zach Bowler, SHS '94, and his friend, Matt Clyde, appears in the new edition of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Bugle magazine. Bowler bagged this monster in September during a Colorado hunt. Even with 8" broken off one brow tine, the bull scored just shy of 370 using the Boone & Crockett system.
Zach shot the bull with a 50 cal. black powder from about 50 yards, then the work began, packing the bull on their backs, down hill a half mile or so from over 11,000 feet down to just under 10,000 feet and then another four miles out, over relatively mild terrain. Needless to say, it took a couple of trips for the two hunters to the elk get back to their vehicle. This hunting duo from Bozeman take their hunting and hunting rights seriously and also spent some time tracking down and turned in a poacher in the same area. –Photo by Matt Clyde
