New Truck

I just got back drove Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi and Cummins.
I just have trouble saying 80K for a new truck.
Drove a new GMC with a 6.6 as well.
I keep getting drawn to 3/4 ton for some reason.
You get drawn to 3/4 ton because it feels like a truck. I have a 1/2 ton 2wd for my daily driver, and it does great for the back and forth to my day job. It however, is not a truck.

Honestly, with the state of this vehicle market it's just about a damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I haven't bought new since a 1991 model.
I am presently looking for a 3/4 ton 4wd, crew cab, with the "work truck" package. Trying to find something >10ish years old with <150k on the odometer. They are hard to find in decent condition at a reasonable price.
Seems I need to digest the latest definition of 'reasonable'.

I'm not brand loyal anymore, but I've always had GM trucks. I'd happily drive a Dodge or Ford, maybe even one of those Tundras, if the right deal came along.

My old half ton gutless wonder is fine for me and the dog going to work, but I'm needing a rig with a utility toolbox bed as a secondary truck.

Honestly Toyota will probably get my next truck money because they've refused to go along with a good bit of the pandering in the vehicle market, and I appreciate that.

I've liked the small trucks for a long time, for puttin' around the place or in the woods, but never could justify having one.
Most things I keep around the place have to be good at more than a couple or three things.
My darlin' is happy she made the cut:ROFLMAO: (truth is, I'm the lucky one)

One of my employees has a new full size Toyota (Tundra? I think). Seems like a good truck, but I need someone else to get the new wore off before I get to it. I'm rough on my trucks.

I think some of the older Tundras are said to be pretty good goers and stayers. I just fix my old stuff until it doesn't go anymore and then I get new old stuff, usually. If I buy a Yoter it'll probably be from the used section, though I'd kind of like to buy new just once and drive that for 20 years. We've hit a wall, imo, newer isn't better for 90% of the vehicle manufacturers. Toyota is the only outfit still impressing me, by buddy just bought a 4-Runner and that thing gets around alright and don't guzzle too terribly bad.

That 3/4 will be around long after these half tons and actually retain some value.
I know and your right.
I have avoided the DEF until it's getting impossible on anything diesel. You can't delete for a 100K without voiding the warranty.
I am still pondering as I have the buyers order for both Ram 2500 . One with 6.4 Hemi other Cummins. I will decide something between now and tomorrow. That's if this rain doesn't have me flooded in until I back out of skinning that many frogs.

That's crazy expensive. Did you ask to see the construction trucks they keep in the back lot? I've seen rubber mat, manual crank window trucks for half what the loaded trucks are. And they last just as long, tow just as much, and go just as fast.

I have drove both a lot and if I was buying new it would be the 6.4 Hemi.

Dodge has come a long wayon their interior but it's still wears out too fast. I drive a 1500 4dr 4wd at one of the places some times. It rides smooth and has a lot of features I like. It has the new stuff that matters but isn't like a space ship with a bunch of extras. I can still tell the stuff like the seats and things are wearing fast though.

Gas vs Diesel. I've got a 6.2 gas and a 6.7 diesel that I drive equal amounts yearly. The extra amount the diesel cost I'll end up spending in fuel cost on the 6.2 over a 5 yr period. I don't regret buying the 6.2 because it works perfect for the intended use but I did expect better fuel milage. The real downside though is having to stop for fuel every few days. The diesel has a 50 gallon tank and gets 14mpg. The gas has a 25 gallon tank and gets 9 mpg. 😒

That seems poor mileage for the 6.2. I've never run a diesel so don't know about that. My 6.0 GM products and my Hemi always got at least 16 or more until I towed with them. The hemi was the worst, any trailer at all would decrease the mileage to 7.

I assume you're talking about the 6.2 GM gasser. If so, is that while towing?

My wife and I drove to Wyoming last year and averaged 20.3 mpg. That was her 6.2 in the Yukon and no towing.

If you are getting 9 mpg while towing, it stands to reason; that engine is not a heavy duty truck engine and wasn't engineered or tuned for that kind of work. It only shines while propelling the vehicle it's installed in. You can tweak it, but it still not a real truck engine.

That has always been Ford's weak spot. They never made anything that got good mileage compared to an equal vehicle of any other manufacturer. It may run forever but you are gonna put the fuel thru it. I say that as a diehard Ford man. Hoping the new 7.3 gas is something special. I got a driveway full of Triton motors and they leave a lot to be desired in performance especially towing. I wish I could swap them for an Ecoboost.

If you are not working a truck everyday gas is the only way to go now. The new diesels are pretty trouble free if you run the snot out of them. Puttering around kills the EPA garbage on them. It will never burn enough fuel to pay the difference in them.
