I like the idea and I may try that although I would like to completely renovate which is, of course, kinda tough without chemicals.

I see your point on wanting to get rid of the fescue. I just don't know if it is possible to get it gone and keep it gone. We have reseeded hay fields with timothy, brome, orchard grass, and clover, but the fescue always comes back and after a few years we have to do it again. I wonder if there are any other grasses that will overtake the fescue and keep it choked out.[/quote]

We have one field that used to be a fescue pasture and was cropped twice a year with sudan and marshall rye grass. That was done for 5 years. Since then it's been planted in WW once and WSG last year. It was sprayed before the WSG was planted and then again this year when we planted WSG again. Drought got the WSG. There is fescue all over the field. Burning it down twice year for several years with glyphos will put a hurt on it, but the stuff will still come back.
That's what makes fescue both a curse and a blessing.
