I only have Ram pickups anymore but the size of an 8' bed pickup seems about the same. The
Oh ok, they are all that way around here so I didn't see any difference 😂
those are usually the guys that bought the "Ranchette"

Very few work trucks are around my area. The majority are solely for transportation and not hauling. They will pull a trailer for transporting more than a toolbox or fuel tank.

On a side note can you remember the last time you saw someone buying a new stock-rack for a pickup?

I haven't seen stock racks for sale in over 25 years. Not long ago tho, slide in box rails (with tops) for 16' utility trailers were 'a thing'. But we had the pickup rails back when.... (I'd hate to try to load calves in the newer pickups, with the bumper and tailgate sitting so high off the ground.) I could step right up on that 61 Ford

Everybody had a loading chute back in the day.

I've always wondered why someone doesn't build a car trailer with a removeable/reinstallable cattle enclosure like a pick-up bed rack.

I haven't seen a set of stock racks for sale anywhere for along time and haven't seen but 1 truck with a set on in forever. That was like standard equipment in our part of the country. The illinois people ( I was raised in Cape Girardeau MO) would come over on Saturday to shop down town with mom and dad and the baby in the cab and a herd of older kids in the back standing up and holding on to the cattle racks til they parked and when they parked it look like a flock of birds as the kids in the back jumped out and scattered

this is what you'd usually see around our place. Most folks built there own. There' weren't a lot of factory ones around. They'd go to the mill and get full cut rough lumber so the side rails were usually at least a full 4/4" and bolt it together and then let it dry a couple of weeks and paint it with some house paint. If you hauled a whole lot you could plan on taking a tire off and beating the wheel well back up so it wouldn't rub on the tire

Dad talked about when he rode out on the Red Desert they would load the horses in a 1 1/2 ton truck. There was enough room for maybe four cowboys and the rest had to hang off the back of the truck. He said they were froze by the time they got to where they were going. I don't think there is anyone who would put up with that now days.

There were a lot of things in the good old days tht are common today but non existent then so you didn't know you missed it. Being comfortable all the time wasn't a guarantee. In the summer when I was a kid my grandaddy would come find me to do some chore I wouldn't want to do and he's say "come on boy, we've got work to do" to which I'd reply, "what do we have to do today grandaddy?" and he'd say something like, "go out in the barn and get 2 bush knives, we're gonna cut back some fence rows" And I'd say, "it's too hot to do that today" (you could get by saying that once a summer but you better not say it again) and he'd say "Shut up boy, it's supposed to be hot, it's summer time" , so much for comfort at our place.
