We are new to cattle and have 4 Scottish Highland; 2 steer, 1 bull, and 1 cow who is due to calve the 27th of October. We are in the learning phase so any advice is appreciated. Hidden River Ranch in Tennessee. I'm feeling lucy that I found this website!

Welcome from East Tennessee! Lots of good folks and information on here. Hopefully you will have a healthy, new calf soon to add to your herd.

Welcome from NE Alabama ! What are your plans for the steers ? Lawn ornaments or feed out to eat ?

Where in TN? My folks moved from around Coffee County TN to TX after the civil war. One of my relatives was a Lutheran Minister that sold his whiskey business to a guy by the name of Jack Daniels.

We are breeding to get more well-bred highlands out there instead of some of the awful ones we have been seeing. We will put one steer in the freezer each year as I've read that the beef is much healthier due to naturally less fat. Too bad you aren't in NW Alabama, you'd be fairly close! Thanks for the welcome. We are newbies to cattle which is why I joined this website. I hope to learn as much as I can about all aspects of cattle care.

Your family has an interesting history! We live in Leoma and my husband works from home. I am loving this beautiful piece of property and all of my animals!
I've been close to there a time or two going back and forth from Texas to parts east. Beautiful country. You should be able to grow some grass and raise some nice cattle.
I forgot to tell you that my hubby loves Jack Daniels!
The story goes that Daniel Huston Call, the minister and mercantile owner, was convinced by his wife that the whiskey business wasn't appropriate for a preacher. Jack Daniels worked for him at the time at his store.
