I have been following the comments with interest because this is the way I started in the cattle business. My biggest problem was not having a decent working facility which led to several train wrecks. Since then I've smartened up and built a good working facility and it has made a big difference. I have also tried long distance cattle ranching early on which was also a bad idea. If you can't check your cattle every day particularly during calving season you are playing with fire. This sounds more like a hobby than serious business which will do a disservice to both your cattle and your pocket book with a good deal of frustration thrown in.
