New Herd Bull

Need a better pic as that one makes him look like he is skittish... among other things. Get him on some level ground and standing still.

Put a location on your profile. From the vegetation in the background that may be a factor in what we think of him.

New photo as requested. Location in Profile. Our pastures are in South Florida - Loxahatchee and Yeehaw Junction. View attachment 57862
Somebody teased his tail in this picture... lol

I'd bet this is the product of low birth weight/calving ease genetics. If that's what he is and you're going to breed heifers he'll do fine. But if you need to sell steers and you have cows with experience he's pretty light in the muscle department. Look at his back leg. The muscle should come down deep into the hock and it's clearly well above. Light in the loin, too.

Absolutely right. His line is specifically for low birth weight/calving ease genetics. We are building our herd and will sell off any bulls at weaning. Currently 10 head at one location and 20 at the other. Looking to develop 50-60 head herd. Will keep him 2 years and swap him out to keep the genetics clean.

I'd sell the heifers too and look for something from a bull that makes cows.
