Wanna hear something funny. As it turns out the shooter at Newtown NEVER used an "assault weapon". They found the AR in the trunk of his car. He did all that shooting with 4 pistols.

I would sure not have a hard time believing that the spokes people were given the very firm directive of reporting that the "assault weapon" was the one used to the media. The actual facts were probably saved for the official report. Once you get the story line you like and the story fades over time, no one will care about corrections.

The emotional hype is what these guys are after anyway. Look how fast NY is acting on this. Strike while the emotions are high and sympathetic.
