Some of the more unique breed. All three sired by Dutch improved red and white beef breed ( Verbeterd Roodbont).

They are abit shorter than other heifers. Will be interesting to see their weight comparison. There were no difference in weaning weights. The first ones for us, so it's interesting to see if thia breed will work for us. Using easy calving salers bull on them for safer calving in case these has smaller pelvises.

Pregnant heifers are doing great so far. Will calve mostly in May-June, with the first one due at the end of April.

Vrb x incalf to salers.

In total have 11 heifers calving this year. Almost all are incalf to either salers or parthenaise, except for two- one carrying sim calf and one charolais.

Why are you using Salers? Over here there are a lot of people with negative experience, mainly that they tend to be flighty.

To add more safety in calving for bluex females. Used salers almost just on bluex and vrbx females with the piedmontese one and one first calf lim being exceptions. Salers have phenomenal calving abilities and good milk supply. My original plan is to get salers sired female from blue cross cow, which later would be safe to use blue on again. The cow would still be partly blue, but would be way safer that her bluex dam. Salers in Europe are used for crossbreeding with belgian blues and extreme muscular type charolais without much issues.
We do have some salers blood in the herd already. Had used one angusxsalers bull from AI years ago.
If there will be any issues with their character, calves will be sold at the weaning.

Finally heifers started calving today.
The first one:

Salers sired heifer out of VRBx lim heifer. 287 days gestation. Slight assistance with ropes to make things move faster. Overall quite a small calf.
The sire:

Another heifer is due on the 27th and one on the 31st. In total 7 more heifers left to calve.

That first picture is wonderful. Don't often see pictures of cattle that would make a good painting.

One of the heifer's calf. Almost 3 months old. Still full of character!

Her dam should be 4 weeks incalf to charolais
It's been three whole years since this one's birth. She is due with her first calf on the 17th, so not much time left. Her dam unfortunately had aborted her second calf at 7months. Then it was really hard to get her back incalf, but managed it. Last year she gave us a heifer again and this year due to calve on the 18th with Maine Anjou calf, so hopefully another red and white heifer!

Every year- new group of heifers. So here's a group for this year breeding. Still not out on grass, but soon will be. Had very wet weather for the past month... It's a miracle if there are two days in a row without rain.
First, two 75% blonde. Completely different breeding. The plainer one is younger by 2-3months.

Noticed that blonde are way later maturing and heifers starts growing and filling out around two year age. The younger one still hasn't reached two years age, so she might change quite alot. However, she already does have height.

75%sim. Gonna use sexed sim and hopefully will get more colour from the calf 😅
