New generation "farmers"

Help Support CattleToday:

We just finished our 4th harvest of hemp, first year it molded a bit and then shady buyers took the rest of the product and ran, second year we cleared 75k/acre.
Still sitting on everything from last year, part is sitting in some warehouse in a litigation limbo.

Same thing with the lottery. Doesnt do any good to collect more taxes from poor people.

I've heard lots of debate on casinos also because of the addiction and crime that goes along with it.
Steve hit the nail on the head. I've been alive not all that long, but long enough to hear the promises of increased revenues (and rainy day funds) from horse racing, slot machines, table games and now mary jane.

I'll be a monkey's uncle if the State of Oklahoma still doesn't have a massive shortfall in funding and things are only worse with revenues down from the recent commodity (oil and gas) crash. Perhaps legal prostitution and methamphetamine will save the day.

I am within a mile of a local casino and have constant trouble with people parking and utilizing our entrance. I've chased a few off and have found syringes, blunt wrappers and discarded contraceptives. Suppose the all day buffet is worth all the trouble....

I was not a fan when they wanted to legalize gambling in Texas.

You forgot tattooing is legal in oklahoma now too. Dont forget the new lottery also! Another revenue generator.
And like u said, oklahoma is still short on funds.... how???

So I really figure these new generation farmers, small operations growing medicinal grass, would be slowing down.
Seems people are buying any little spot of land they can find to grow their product. I just cant help but wonder when the demand falls below the supply. I mean surely the market is flooded with that stuff. Everybody and their dog seems to be a farmer now.

Is it really that good of an operation?
Is anybody hip to all that jive?
What's really going on?

I really dont have any interest in it, other than I dont want it around here. I guess every farmer needs a place but still...

The reason is this. 2 places for sale near me. Both about 8 acres each. Both have barns and livable dwellings. Well, septic, electric already established. I dont like the idea at all
Several years ago I read an article that said that marijuana was the biggest cash crop in Oklahoma even with it being illegal. Also same article said that the growers were lmproving it to a point that it was the most potent form in America. Better than the Mexican stuff.

I went by a real good Hemp grower farm today. It is a company that has been growing/selling seed to the farmers (oats/etc) for many, many years. Now they have their own CBD oil processing plant. They had lots of acres of beautiful, pristine plants. I would guess they will handily profit off of that crop. I believe they are the buyer for this area - but, as good as they grow, I can't imagine anyone else's crop would qualify.

I haven't extensively researched it, but it's my understanding that although they legitimized it by saying the proceeds would go to fund education, the legislature then removed the previous education funding, so all the lotto did was to transfer one source of education funding to another, without improving education funding.

On the other hand, I also believe that if adults want to waste their money with the lotto it shouldn't be up to the government to tell them they can't. Considering the odds of winning, I consider it a voluntary tax on people who can't do math.

That is the problem. There was stats out saying some thing like 80% of people playing the lotto were below the poverty level.

No way to look at a plant and tell if it's hemp or marijuana. They're both Cannabis species; and even within the two groups, there's a wide range of sizes and growth/flowering habits, as well as maturity dates - some short & stocky, some tall and wispy.
Many of the pot (and 'smokable hemp') growers are doing indoor grows with 'autoflowering' strains - they start flowering at X days after germination, whereas most outdoor hemp growers use strains that begin flowering at a particular day/night photoperiod, with varying lengths of flowering time after that trigger. From our experience growing hemp, I would think that to produce primo marijuana bud, you'd almost have to do it indoors to control insect and disease/mold issues.
Legally, the difference between hemp and marijuana is THC content - hemp must have less than 0.3% THC... Yeah, three one-hundredths of one percent... that's NOTHING!!! Law needs to be changed to allow at least 1%. Most marijuana strains are well over 15% THC... IDK, but I've read that those 'low' THC (12-15%) strains just don't get any love... more is better, ya know?

I don't doubt that. There's a reason you don't see billboards advertising it in the rich parts of town. The lotto is taking advantage of people who can least afford it. On the other hand, as I said above, they're adults.

As I've said before, I don't play the lottery. It's not just because of how bad the odds are, but I figure God loves me too much to let me win anyway. He knows how sorry and lazy I'd be if I didn't have to work for a living.

I use to agree except for now they dont let people fall on their butts when they make bad choices. We, the tax payers, get the bill. If you receive govt assistance you should not be able to buy lotto tickets or gamble or a lot of other things.

I agree brute, then again there's a lot of other things I think you shouldn't be able to do while receiving government benefits long term.

We have 2 marijuana farms within a mile, outdoor, in the ground farms. In full view and behind barbwire, I believe they are supposed to be hidden and behind secure fence, but what I'm hearing is OK doesn't have enough "marijuana police", so they are betting the odds of being in violation. To be fair, at least 1 does have security, and cameras. I think it's a situation like the chicken litter cops, they just can't be everywhere.

I guess this is a "thing" they are doing. Neighbor south of town sold a lil place and when they showed up, there was like 15 people. Unfriendliest folks they ever come across, he said. And the fence that they put up is ugly as sin.
