In my past life I was a Safety and Occupational Health Administrator as well as entrepreneur. Hurricane Ida disrupted all that and relocated me and my family to south east Texas from coastal Louisiana. I wanted to walk a different path here and we started our homestead which includes our first dairy heifer. She will be calving in a few weeks and we already love her and the breed. I've been lucky to have a dairy nearby and a few other beef ranchers...all of whom have embraced us and mentor. I'm so happy to lurk and read everything cattle!

Welcome to CT! Please go back into your profile and add your location.

Welcome from Va. If you go to your name top right, down to account details and down to location, you can put in SE TX. It often helps with answers to any questions... Things in your area will be different from here in the valley and mountains of Va, and from @Dave in Or or the guys in BC in Canada. But we all try to be a part of the family of cattlemen(women).
What kind of dairy heifer? Jersey? Crossbred, something less common? I personally have some Jersey and Guernsey crosses that I use as nurse cows, and @MurraysMutts trades and has gotten a couple of really super duper nurse cows.... several also have a "home cow" for milking and such.
