New calves EPD

I'm under the impression that a calves projected EPD is an average of the Sires and Dams EPD in the given catagory. Or to say, if the Sires BW EPD was 4 and the Dams BW EPD was 5 then the subject calves Projected BW EPD would be 4.5. Is this correct?

to keep things simple, "yes". averaging will give you a pretty good idea of what the expected epd's will be.

to be correct, "not always". if the animal in question is already born & its data is used in the calculation, then it may not be an exact average.
