Got a new calf that was born last night. It's front legs are messed up. The bottom of the leg at the last knuckle is turned back on both legs. I thought I could straighten them out and tape them up but they will not move. Anyone have this before?

Frequently called bumble foot.
Standard wisdom is if you tape and splint them they will be ok in 6 weeks, if you leave them alone they will be straightened out by a month and a half.
A shot of selenium may help, it does (supposedly) in foals. Can;t hurt. Yaers ago I bought all the bumble foot calves at the auction that I could. Could buy the poor litle cripplesw that should be shot to put out of their misery for a buck to 5 bucks. Took them home and never did anything other then raise them like any other calf. IN a couple of weeks I would haul them back to the auction and make handfuls of money over my costs.
