This morning I was out spraying White Top. Down at the far down stream end. Glanced over in the neighbor's field. There was a brand new Charolais calf trying to suck on one of his Galloway cows. He had a Galloway bull. Doesn't look like he got many calves from it. I looked it up. A calf born today the cow was bred around August 12. The fire started July 17. By mid August I had a lot of fire refuge cows showing up. I never had a bull show up but the timing is right to have one come down to his place. I called the neighbor who lives on the other side of the Galloway place. He laughed and said well at least he now has one good calf.

Down that way this morning. Counted 25 cows and 9 calves. Figured the cow who had the Char calf got bred around August 12. I am thinking he got the Galloway bull sometime in May. Someone wasn't very fertile. The bull. A bunch of heifers breeding back after their first calf. A bunch of heifers who came from Oklahoma in early January just in time for winter to hit. A little short on groceries. The reasons could go on and on.
