Neighborhood bear

Help Support CattleToday:

If you see bear tracks, they are scouting YOUR place.
If you see a bear that close, YOU are on THEIR place.
Only a matter of time before momma bear tries to remove Dave or his wife from Her place
I have spent a life time around black bears. They don't really worry me. Now I have serious respect for grizzlies and brown bears. There is no way I would let a sow with cubs of one of those breeds hang around. This bear comes in after dusk and leaves before it gets light in the morning. Also my dogs blow up every time she comes around. They do a real good job of letting us know that she is here.

Wife saw the bear climb a tree in front of the house. Not the apple tree. It is a black walnut maybe 18 inches on the stump. As it got lighter out we spotted a cub and eventually the second cub. I tried to take pictures of them in the tree but it was still too dark. When they came down I got pictures. All taken through the living room window. First mom at the base of the tree. Then cub #1 taking off following mom. Finally after some orders from mom, cub #2 climbed down and then scurried off.

How does the bear tags work there?
Guess ya'll need to give them names.

We have had some what the wild life is saying young black male bears. One was just a mile or so from our house. They want us to believe it's the same bear but i don't believe it.

Yeah there's more, the wildlife folks were saying just wayward young male bears in our area around 20 years ago, at that time another wildlife man told a neighbor that there had to be atleast 3 in our area due to the timing of sightings.
Our neighbors had a female and cubs on their trail camera during the just young male bear times. We've seen mother and cub on our place to in recent years too.
They have now spread to most of if. It the entire state of KY by now.

You are more Eastern than us. I thought there had been bears there forever.

I have a tag. It is open season. But you can't shoot a sow with small cubes. Since the fire burned all of their habitat everyone in the area who has a fruit tree has a bear.

They've been here a while, but when I was a child there weren't any, that we knew of. Once they were in the Red River Gorge area, they weren't long until they came here.
The first bear seen here was almost 20 years ago, folks were working in hay. A bear came running out of a thicket in front of a woman raking hay, she got scared and ran the tractor into a gate.

When I was a kid western Washington had the highest concentration of black bears in the country. They estimated there was 4 bear per square mile. No tag required and season was open year round. There was 5 counties where they were considered predators and you could use any method you wanted to kill them. The timber companies hated them because when they came out of hibernation they would ring trees to eat the inner layer of the bark. So they had people hired to trap or snare the bears. Lots of people with bear hounds. They killed a lot of bears. Not as many now as back then but there sure isn't a shortage of them.

Why the H*ll would you name a bear or any other wildlife. There are people like you at Yellowstone Park making the news by petting the buffalo.

Why not? If they are going to be at your house every day why not. Light up a little. Zoo name their animals.

No, sir I wouldn't be that close to any wild life. We saw people trying the pet the elk at the Grand canyon. I didn't even like to see that.

What is the name going to be?
Cinnamon
Cinnabon
Smokey
Mama
Birtha, Jimmy, and Timmy
I'd say a few more but they aren't appropriate.

When you get done naming the bear (and there are more bears than this sow and cubs) you can start working on the 250 or so elk eating the neighbor's alfalfa. I am sure once they get the alfalfa wiped out they will move to my fields. I live surrounded by lots of wildlife and very few people. The dogs, cats, and horses have names. The cows have numbers in their ear.

You could tag them. I want see a video of you doing that. Hahaha
I'm just talking the mama and cubs not every thing else.
