Hello, this is my first year with Highlands. I live as far north in Vermont as you can get, right next to the Canadian border, on a mountain that gets alot of snow. I would like to know how some of you that live in such an environment winter your cows. Do you keep them outside all winter? How do you provide water (eating snow or heated water source)? Should I allow them free access to my barn? Thank you for your help.....Dennis

they should be fine right outside yes i would provide them with water and hay if they do not graze through the snow

Hi Mycows,
Highlanders are hardy beast's they don't mind being outside all winter, hence the long thick coat, they do how ever like a sheltered place to take cover such as tree shelter or hill cover to take restbite from blowing cold winds, a good water source and hay as Glover36 said.
