first off thank you to both of you, Cowgirl thanks for fixing the links.
The second guy got sold so that rules him out. My husband thought th price was right on the first. but for me to look at him, he would make a good heiffer bull but not eventually a cow bull.
does that make sense?

You are addressing 50% of the problem.
What are the EPD's of the heifers?
What size calf are these heifers capable of handeling? (frame score?)
What will be the outcome of the progeny?
Will you need a heifer bull year after year? Maybe AI would be a better choice on heifers.
May be better off selling heifers and buying cows that are capable of haveing the type of calf you are wanting, closer to your goal.

thanks novatech,
our heiffers are in good shape not to fat a good three in BC score.
When the vet came out to semen test she looked them over and gave the OK for replacements.
the outcome of the ofspring willl be feeders. Usually our first calver's calves are not kept as replacements unless they are execptional.
Angus X cows
Will not buy animals for replacements. Been there done that and had way better luck with our own. Know the genetics the cow and bull the udder, etc and know what to expect to the best humanly possible from our herd. We like no surprises though we get them.AI... thought of but no one in our area does that.
Generally we like our heifers to calve in the 70# range but had a few bigger because of the heavier feeding this winter due do the long long cccold winter.
Still thinking on the bull.

You sure you mean 3 BCS. Check out this link: http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/beef/400-795/photos1-9.html

wowza
i checked out the web site. Ours would be 6-7 BSC.
I just checked on our semen test paper and the BSC goes from 1-5. That's what i based 3 on.
those 1-3 on that web site couldn't imagine a cow getting that thin
