I don't know what this little plant is - is it a friend or foe to grazing? I was walking the front pasture last evening in preparation for weed spraying this weekend and came across this plant. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance!

I would say hop clover and cattle do like it but it does not get very big. And I think it acts as a true clover in that it fixes nitrogen.

I am still trying to figure out what all that green stuff is, have't seen any in two years

Ain't that the truth. We finally got a little rain - filled the stock ponds up and turned everything GREEN. Cattle are SO happy they don't even come to the house wanting some cow cocaine (cubes). It was a year and three months between rains.

Hop clover. Not really a clover, it's in the medic family. There is tons of data available on internet about it. It is a freind, around here it's called poormans alfalfa

Thank y'all for the help! You confirmed my guesstimate - I was thinking some sort of medic but wanted to make sure it wasn't some sort of Texas kudzu that would take over the county if I didn't kill it out.

That green grass is welcome sight here, too. In the last 4 weeks , we've ( Montague county) gone from drought w/ wildfires that consumed 80+ homes and 75,000-100,000 acres to rain and growing grass. Thank the good Lord!

ps we call cubes "cow crack" and the cows, "crackheads" at our house.

It's burr clover or otherwise burr medic. See the url below. We have lots of it and encourage it because of its nutritional value. However it has a short growing season and can bloat a cow if not managed.

First thing that came to my mind too but I don't think it is. The flower isn't right and the green color isn't dark enough.

Here is a link to some really clear bur clover pictures.

And some detailed photos of hop clover.
