Looking for some data/anecdotes on what a typical (nice but not from a famous herd) registered Angus yearling (13-14 mos) heifer might bring? I don't have a scale and am bad at estimating, so let's just say she's normal size--not a dink and not a monster. From a good mama; was born unassisted; raised on grass; vaccinated. I am thinking of selling her because she doesn't fit into my attempt to move from summer to spring calving.

Any thoughts appreciated; I know there are regional differences, just looking for some ranges to confirm I'm in the ballpark..

Thanks!

I would say somewhere in the $2250-2750 range, maybe up to $3000 if she's really nice.

Next door neighbor has had a group of AI-bred Angus heifers - most with 3-4 generations of AI breeding behind them - for sale @ $3000 each. Folks have tried to talk him down, but he's held fast, and most have been sold.
It's more than I'd have liked to pay, but they're GOOD cattle, and probably worth what he priced them at.
I've seen what I presume are put-together groups of bred black(predominantly Angus) heifers for sale in this area on TheCattleRange for $2600 to $3200 each.

Lets say just for the beef price she's 850 lbs at $2/lb = $1700.. that's what any heifer is worth, then add something because she's a good quality animal.

A lot of people might shy away from her for the very reason you're getting rid of her though...

Thanks, SOB ( ;-) and others! The comments and input is very appreciated!
Here is a link to one of the nearest sale barns. I wouldn't sell her this way, of course, but just as another data point, the closest match on this sales report would be "feeder, beef" with a high of $2/lb, right? http://www.empirelivestock.com/LoadPage ... Page=50-48

That report really doesn't tell you anything. Maybe their runs have been too light to establish prices.

I assume she has a mid to late July birthday and should be of appropriate size to breed now to calve at 1yr 11m.
Rather than selling her open, by breeding her and selling as exposed or as a bred heifer should increase interest and price by
including possible buyers who don't have current access to a bull they feel would be appropriate for breeding heifers.

Breeding and selling her as a short bred would be an easy cost effective option to quickly add value and increase your profit.

Interesting thought Butch...She is grass-fed though and ours often get a growth spurt starting right about now. I would hesitate to breed her quite yet, maybe another 2 months. If I don't get any bites, maybe I'll breed her for a Sept. 1 calving date or so, then sell her...

I watched a Registered Angus complete dispersal/estate sale (188 hd) from Pennsylvania today online.
I noted 4 random Open Heifers 14-16 months old all registered, in good health and condition, but nothing unusual or special.
bd 5/01/14 $1800
bd 5/14/14 $1700
bd 5/17/14 $1800
bd 7/12/14 $2000

I'd say you could expect yours to fall into this price range and would expect closer to $1600 than $2000.
I will PM their registration numbers so you can review their pedigrees and will also included the complete sale report.
