I post all dead cattle here at the feedlot and have seen about everything! What would cause a liver to double in size? Lungs where normal along with kidneys and rest of abdomonial tract. It appeared that the liver ruptured and calf bled to death. I suspect trauma caused rupture need help with why it was enlarged to start with.

I've posted too many cattle to count. I've seen enlarged livers, but there are many different causes. Was the liver friable (structurally weak so it fractured with touch?) that's often fatty liver. Was it congested? Look at cardiac function (heart failure) were there tracts? Flukes.... I'd recommend that further investigation include histopathology to actually discover why the liver was enlarged. JMHO Good Luck V

I feed calves and I have noticed that some get real mean on feed and do alot of head butting. I have wondered if some of these viscious blows could cause internal injuries to the bodies of calves on the recieving end. It may not be your problem, who knows?
