Mysterious calf death?

Hey yall I have a friend who lost a nice calf yesterday 6 mos. old 550-600 lbs. the calf was perfectly fine on Tuesday. Wednesday the right side of his face was swollen so bad that his eye was closed and his nose was runny. Before he could go to the barn and come back the calf was dead. My guesses were gunshot or snake bite, but he thinks it was a respiratory disease. Any of you ever heard of these types of symptoms?

Not sure, but it ain't too often that a snake bite will swell that much....and if tissue toxic it will start to slough off after a day or two, odd that it was only one side that swelled..I agree, you should have the vet do a necropsy to find out for sure what caused it. :?

TN Mster Producer, will IBR set in that fast the calf was perfectly fine the day before.
