LAST one for the season, little late. Momma was a show heifer (won her class at county)..This one popped around 2 am, had to pull her, momma was having trouble. Already cleaned and nursed by 6 am...It's a great day...

I don't really know anything about shorthorns. What's their rate of maturity as compared to other breeds?

I guess I don't understand that question. We try to breed heifers so they will calf around their second birthday. Does that answer your question?
This momma was late getting bred. She was a FAT show heifer. We held off on her breeding a while because she was so chunky, and she still had some trouble. This is the 5th calf out of our herd bull and we are very pleased. I have one Steer that is being readied for Ft. Worth in 2010. I am hoping he will win, I sure would like to sell some semen from the Bull. He's got the lineage, just need the progeny to "prove the pudding" so to speak..
