I took my one bottle calf to the sale. He was nearly 3 months old and getting to be a pain to feed. Down to a couple of days of milk replacer. He was the only bovine here now and we are going to travel something this summer. So it was time for him to go. I thought $600 or I bring him home. Bidding started at $600 and they way the auctioneer was going there must have been 4 or 5 people bidding to start with. Sold for $950. Sale yard owner asked if I had any more of those to bring in.

That wasn't so bad now was it!!! 🤣🤣🤣
The calf was basically free. Out of a cow with no milk who turned a profit to kill. The calf was at least 3 weeks old when he got pulled off the cow and started on the bottle Better than half a bag of milk replacer that was sitting in a cupboard for 2 maybe 3 years. I bought one sack of milk replacer and a sack or calf starter grain. That cost me a little over $100. If I had bought the calf for $600 (a number kicked around here) and 2 sacks of milk replacer, I would have been $800 into the calf. My check after cost to sell was $889. Throw in $40 in fuel to take him to the sale......
Not a lot of money left over.
