Murrays projects 2021

Help Support CattleToday:

The big brown cow with the ears sold today after losing her calf. Who knows what happened there. Vanished without a trace.

I bought her back in October and gave $1031 for her. She calved and I was super excited about it. Nice little calf. So much so I was gonna breed her and keep her another year. It happens....

She brought $1580

Sure would've liked to sold a calf off of her too!

Milkshake cows steer is just about ripe for the picking. Be selling calves before long. This thread is about to die. Last of the original projects here. Cow may sell too. Ain't decided yet. She's done a good job. She will be bred to my black angus this time.

Any time I end with a bottle calf, always get a few scour boluses
That was back when for $20 got you a calf and I had sons who would bid and go home and feed them. Never prepared in mom's car and in the house for the first couple days. My wife was raised on a dairy farm and hated cows, bottles, calves, etc.. Then I would find her at 3 in the morning out feeding or doctoring the boys calves or 8 months pregnant on the end of the rope while I'm trying to get a calf pulled.
It's in our blood

How old? She still looks in good condition with a nice bag, good feet.
I agree! Beautiful little udder!
She will be older than 9. Vet called her old and open. Idk that I'm interested in another calf from her, but her disposition and calf raising ability is the kind!

Calf should bring what I give for the pair come spring. I'm really in disbelief they didn't split the pair. But I guess at the same time, the lil cow ain't worth a whole lot dollar wise. Pair weighs 890lbs. Calf has to be 150

Something i want to add in here, and I've been doing it like this for quite some time now, is that I don't own a chute!
Most all the animals/projects I buy are worked before they ever leave the sale. At the sale barns chute on the way out!!

She may have short teeth due to the forage she's been on. I'd say she's less than nine. But I'm not an expert on Corrs.

Miss Thing
An apparent orphan from the deceased neighbors place.
I've got one pair of his and a bred cow as well. My buddy has 3 bred cows.
Think I'll make a cow out of this one! I've been a big fan of his cattle for some time. He is the one who had the shorthorns I've posted about before. His big framed black cattle are always impressive. And milk like there's no tomorrow!

She weighed 135lbs Saturday afternoon. Eats very well and has good healthy poops. She got an 8-way and a tag. No bottle. She hasn't made a sound. No telling how long she's been without mama. Perhaps one of the cows that sold last week was her mama. Idk

Let her out of the trailer today. Petunia flipped the heck out!! I had fed her to occupy her when she saw Miss Thing she jumped thru her feed, knocked the bowl over and high tailed it to her lil shed! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Never seen a goats hair stand up like a dog before.

That lil goat is fat as a tick. It's a bit disgusting really. 😆
I forgot I'm trying a new feed for this heifer. It's Purina Pre-con I think. I'll double check later. Supposed to be a complete feed. Tho I have some alfalfa/orchard grass hay I'm going to attempt to feed her separately from the goat. We will see how that goes....

I finally found my scale. I've been underfeeding her a bit. She will get 3 lbs a day, for now, plus all the good alfalfa hay and grass she can graze.

After she ate, she realized she was hooked. She really didn't fight too long. We worked a little on tug and release. Long ways to go yet.....

I kicked Miss Thing out on some pasture with a friend's 6 calves.
Pics later. Sure thought I took some today but it was not to be.

Here's a project cow. 5 yr old calved a day or two ago. Almost snatched him up because no one was claiming him!! Mama finally came and got him tho. Gave me the stink eye too!
I just can't help but think there is 2 more in there....

She doesn't show any sign of "freshly" calving - swollen vulva, stuck on slime/afterbirth "stuff".. Nice cow!
I agree Jeanne.
I dinked around over there for quite some time trying to figure out who calved. When she finally came up and sniffed the calf, I just thought what are you doing? Something just don't add up with that cow. There's only one other cow over there due soon. And she is quite springy and bag is just now tightening. Pretty sure my buddy is gonna go check again today. Heck I may just go to. That calf still had wobbly rear legs. But no real noticeable umbilical.
It's absolutely he// trying to finding calves over there with all the trees. I still suspect she's carrying another. Or she's real good at hiding when she's calved. Lol

Like @Jeanne - Simme Valley said, she doesn't look like she's the one that calved. I'm suspicious your other cow did the deed and this cow stole the calf.

I've decided to head back out there even tho the cow is caring for the calf. That lil bull calf was looking for any teat he could find for quite a while. The other cow isn't due until next month, and showed no signs either. But we all know how that goes huh!

After that calf tanked up, he took off running and bucking. Cow was chasing after him sure enough like she was the mother tho!

Something just don't add up....
