I purchased an easy keeping shorthorn cow bred to a Balancer bull, that now has a great looking gray bull calf at her side. I am tempted not to cut him to see how he grows out... My current herd sire is one of those low birth weight RA who does not have a lot of muscle. :(

What color of calves should a gray bull give on black or red cows?

Color shouldn't be that important. Top $ should be paid on top calves.
Don't take a chance on that color. The mouse color is NOT a popular one. In the USA.

If that calf is out of a shorthorn cow you could get any color in the rainbow. Mmnt is right about going out of your way to breed for a color that doesn't sell all that well in your area. However, if you like em do it. What the hey it's only money
