There is also a domectic version of the persimmon but it's much larger, don't know about the seeds.
A "simmon" when it's green will pucker just about every thing you've got, when ripe they're almost disgustingly sweet.

My first experience with a green persimmon was out in my grandpa's pasture. He was eating a persimmon that had ripened early and I wanted one. I got a green one. It was like sucking on a can of alum. After that I wanted them all....I must have shared a hundred of them with friends and the kids at school.
